Question of the Week: Would You Buy the Navigator Concept Doors?
The new Lincoln Navigator Concept debuted this week at the 2016 New York International Auto Show and the most noticeable feature is the massive gull wing style doors that hover above the roof of the big SUV when open.
Unfortunately, Ford has made it clear that this nifty door system – which includes steps that lower out of the floor when the doors open up – would only be featured on the concept. However, with these doors looking so cool, we are interested in how many of our members would consider a big SUV with these high tech doors.
Now, try to ignore the fact that you wouldn’t be able to get into the Navigator with these doors in any garage that didn’t have a 15 foot ceiling. Imagine that this door design eventually made it to other Ford SUVs – would it be something that you would be willing to entertain for your daily driver? Say that the doors swung up and down from your key fob or on the dash, making them just as user-friendly as the sliding doors on a modern minivan and that they didn’t come with a huge price markup over regular doors.
