If you are looking for a fun to drive sport utility vehicle, Ford Motor Company has you covered with two very good options – the Edge Sport and the Explorer Sport.

Both of these SUVs have aggressive package-specific exterior designs and plush interiors, but with varying levels of power, fuel economy, capability and price – buyers have to decide which is better for them.

The 2015 Ford Edge Sport is powered by the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower and 350lb-ft of torque traveling to all four wheels via an advanced all-wheel drive system and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Front wheel drive is also available, but for a more even comparison, we will use the AWD Edge. This drivetrain received EPA fuel economy ratings of 17mpg in the city, 24mpg on the highway and 20mpg combined while also having a towing capacity of 2,000lbs. The Edge Sport has a base price of $40,490.

The 2015 Ford Explorer Sport is powered by the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque being channeled to the wheels by means of an advanced all-wheel drive system and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Explorer Sport can tow 5,000 lbs and when not towing, owners can expect 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined. The Explorer Sport has a base price of $43,995.

So, the Edge Sport is smaller and more nimble, with less horsepower but just as much torque as the Explorer. The Edge interior is slightly smaller and it cannot tow as much as the Explorer, but it also costs more than $3,000 less in “base” form.

For our Question of the Week – if you were shopping for a sporty SUV today which Ford Sport model would you pick?
