QUESTION OF THE WEEK A SVT Explorer with Raptor Power?
The 2017 Ford SVT Raptor F-150 will be powered by a new 3.5L EcoBoost that has been tuned by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team to deliver around 450 horsepower.
Provided that the power estimate is accurate, the new Raptor will be considerably more powerful than the outgoing V8 models, but with the success of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the past few years, I have to wonder if this high performance Raptor engine wont be used in other models.
For instance, the Ford Explorer Sport is powered by the current 3.5L EcoBoost V6, with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque making for one peppy large SUV.
However, with other high performance SUVs sold in the U.S. having much more power, there seems to be plenty of room for a new, higher performance Explorer.
The SVT Raptor engine with 450 horsepower would make the Explorer a real blast and when combined with bigger brakes, a sportier suspension setup and some unique exterior cladding, the SVT Explorer could post a proper threat to the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.
That brings us to our Question of the Week: would you like to see a SVT Explorer with the next generation Raptor EcoBoost V6?
