The next generation Ford F-150 SVT Raptor will feature a specially tuned 3.5L EcoBoost V6 mated to an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. This new 10-speed gearbox, which was developing in conjunction with General Motors, will eventually make it to the rest of the F-150 lineup in the near future, but there is no question that it will take the most abuse in the new Raptor.

Considering that this new 10-speed transmission is totally unproven to the trucking world, it seems like a bold move to introduce the US industry’s first 10-speed gearbox in a vehicle as rugged as the Raptor. Provided that the new transmission is as good as Ford would hope, it should give the new Raptor F-150 a host of advantages over the 6-speed transmission, but if it proves to be problematic in any way – packing it into the Raptor could expose problems in a big hurry.

With all of this in mind, we come to our Question of the Week.

Do you think that it was a good idea to introduce this new 10-speed automatic transmission in the next generation SVT Raptor F-150 or should the Motor Company have gone with a proven transmission in this high performance pickup?
