Popular Mechanics Names GT350R Sports Car of the Year
You know that Ford trucks are built Ford Tough, but toughness also comes from other cars in the product line too. And when it comes to sports cars, the GT350R is tough to beat.
That’s certainly the way Popular Mechanics sees things, as they’ve just named the top-of-the-line Mustang their Sports Car of the Year.
According to the Ford press release, out of all the sports cars in the world, Popular Mechanics picked the Shelby GT350R “because it pushes the boundaries of what an American sports car can be. Shelby GT350R’s unique, high-revving flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-liter V8 produces 526 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque – the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever for the most track-capable, street-legal Mustang ever built.”
We’ve been praising the GT350R, and its little brother the GT350, since the get-go, so we couldn’t agree more with Popular Mechanics‘ pick. But let’s be honest, PM‘s word holds a bit more sway. So, in the words of the great broadcaster Ron Burgundy, the honor is “kind of a big deal.”
As soon as we get a hold of the Popular Mechanics article, which will undoubtedly delve a bit further into their selection process, we’ll be sure to bring you all the details. For now though, let’s just revel in the fact that Ford is continuing to make cars and trucks that are tough to beat.
