This 1979 Ford Bronco Freewheelin’ is oozing with retro goodness in a red hot market, but couldn’t find a buyer.

Few vehicles in today’s world are hotter than the Ford Bronco, particularly the first- and second-gen models. We’ve seen some immaculate examples go for huge bucks in recent months, so we pretty much expected the same when we came across this picture perfect 1979 Ford Bronco Freewheelin’ over at Bring a Trailer. After all, this gorgeous rig has everything one could possibly want in a Bronco of this vintage, from its retro stripe package to those white “wagon” wheels. Regardless, this gem failed to sell its first time around with a high bid of “only” $39,000.

If that seems like a lot of money for something like this, well, you might have missed the meteoric rise of vintage Broncos over the last couple of years. This one certainly seems like it’s worth more than $39k, or at least the seller believes so. Regardless, there’s no denying this 1979 Ford Bronco Freewheelin’ is a true gem of a find, or perhaps we’re just suckers for big-bodied second-gens with Chromatic graphics, even if this one appears to have had those added after the fact.

According to the SUV’s Marti report, it was originally painted Raven Black with airbrushed striping, but the seller had it stripped down to repair rust and then repainted black with the graphics added. All of the chrome was then polished to perfection, resulting in one heck of a gorgeous ride. The seller also added an aftermarket tailgate, a brush guard, off-road lights, and a set of white powder coated wheels wrapped with 33×12.50-inch Cooper Discoverer MTP tires.

The big Bronco sits higher than stock thanks to a four-inch lift kit. The steering box and power steering pump were rebuilt, and the brake booster replaced. Strangely enough, despite completely redoing the exterior, the seller didn’t bother to tidy up the interior, which has a crack in the dash and wear in the upholstery. However, it isn’t terrible by any means, just not quite as perfect as the exterior.

Mileage is another issue, as the odometer shows 17k miles, though the title lists 166k as “not actual mileage,” so there’s no telling what the real number is. Under the hood, the Bronco is powered by a 400 cubic-inch V8 with a FiTech Go Street EFI fuel-injection kit, which is backed up by a three-speed automatic transmission.

Overall, this classic Bronco is one heck of a looker that just needs a bit of work in the cabin, but we’re still surprised that it failed to sell at auction. After all, these things are bringing massive money these days, and ultimately, we don’t think this one will have a hard time finding a new home in the near future.
