PaxPower’s V8-Powered Ford F-150 Raptor Alpha Widebody May Be the Perfect Pickup
PaxPower’s Ford F-150 Raptor Alpha widebody pickup combines V8 power with the suspension and looks of a regular Raptor.
Many of us Blue Oval fans have faced a bit of a dilemma for quite a few years now as Ford shifts away from V8-powered trucks, instead peddling its line of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder EcoBoost engines. Those smaller powerplants have their fans for sure, but a lot of folks (us included) still prefer the sound and feel of a V8. In the case of the F-150 Raptor, we’ve been totally out of luck in that regard with the second- and third-gen models, though the Predator-powered Raptor is coming soon. Regardless, that will likely be difficult to find when it does launch, and slapped with some sort of massive dealer markup. However, PaxPower‘s new Ford F-150 Raptor Alpha widebody pickup might just be the perfect alternative.
The Ford F-150 Alpha widebody pickup certainly looks the part thanks to a full exterior conversion that features PaxPower’s own fenders, which widen a regular, run-of-the-mill F-150 by a full five inches. The company also adds a ram-air hood, its Alpha grille with LED lighting, and a host of bumper and skid plate options, while all the corresponding bits and pieces are painted body-color for a monochromatic appearance.
Underneath, PaxPower fits its Alpha Raptor with a set of 17×9-inch off-road wheels wrapped with 35-inch tires, though 20-inch wheels and 37s are also available. The company also equips the F-150 Alpha with a full Raptor suspension upgrade, which includes Fox shocks with internal bypass technology, upper and lower control arms, extended front axles and lower control arms, and sway bar end links.
As far as power goes, converting a stock F-150 into the Alpha widebody has one distinct advantage – you can start out with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8-powered pickup. That would certainly be our choice, and PaxPower enhances that powerplant with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger and cat-back exhaust, which lifts output all the way up to 770 horsepower. In all fairness, EcoBoost and PowerBoost options are also available, if you’re into that sort of thing.
From there, upgrade options are plentiful and include everything from a custom leather interior to custom fabricated bumpers and everything in between. It’s a truly awesome package for certain, and a combination that many of us have been pining for some time. And to us, at least, the Alpha lives up to its name as what might just be the perfect pickup.
