Insider information confirming the new Ford V8 enigne was leaked from a union autoworkers meeting.

There have been a handful of rumors on the drivetrain of the next generation Ford Super Duty pickups, all of which have revolved around the diesel engine, but today, we have some insight into the future of the big gasoline engine . This new information from The Fast Lane Truck (TFL Truck) seemingly puts this engine size discussion to rest, as an insider has told TFL Truck that the next generation of the Ford Super Duty will have a new gasoline that measures 7.3 liters.

Next Generation Ford Super Duty

It is believed that the next generation of the Ford Super Duty will arrive during the 2019 calendar year as 2020 models and when they do, they will have a new look. Our spy photographers recently snapped pictures of the next F-250 and F-450 heavily camouflaged on the open road, revealing the revised styling.

With the new look will likely come more power, and based on this TFL Truck report, that extra power will come from a new engine. This information comes to TFL Truck via an insider who gathered the information at a UAW meeting.

New Ford Power Stroke

When the 2020 Ford Super Duty debuts, it could be powered by a new, 7.3-liter gasoline-powered V8. The current Super Duty lineup features a 6.2-liter V8 with 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The replacement for the the current engine will almost assuredly be more powerful and more efficient, so we could see horsepower numbers creep up well past the 400 mark while torque could climb up closer to 500 lb-ft.

While those are not Earth-shattering numbers, they would account for significant improvements in both categories. More importantly, if Ford could get the output up around 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, the Super Duty would offer more power than any of the heavy duty competitors. Right now, the Ram brand’s 6.4-liter Hemi is the engine to beat, with that mill provide 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, so the torque advantage already belongs to Ford, but the Super Duty gas engine could use some more horsepower. In jumping from 6.2 liters to 7.3 liters, there should be no issue achieving those lofty power numbers.

When this mill debuts, it will likely be offered throughout the entire Super Duty and Medium Duty commercial truck range, so the F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-650 and F-750 will all rely on this engine.

Again, we don’t know for sure when the next generation Ford Super Duty will be introduced, but rumors point to a formal introduction at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. If that debut focuses on a 2020 model year truck, those big pickups will likely hit dealerships later on next year.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
