New 2015 Ford F-150 Goes Gold Mining

2015 Ford F-150 XL

During testing of the aluminum body of the 2015 Ford F-150, Ford performed a deep cover operation with Barrick Gold Corp., the country’s largest producer of gold. They sent them two prototype trucks and didn’t tell them that they were made from aluminum.

They were told to treat them how they normally treat their vehicles and that Ford would check in on them from time to time. Due to the overwhelming success of the prototypes, Barrick Gold has opted to purchase new aluminum F-150s for their fleet.

With a starting order of 35, Barrick Gold Corp. will put the new trucks to use all over their facilities. All of the trucks ordered are XLT SuperCab 4×4 units with either the 3.5L EcoBoost or the 5.0L V8.

Eventually, they’ll replace all of their over 100 2012 F-150s with the new trucks. Many of those trucks have over 100,000 miles on the odometer from some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

It is interesting that the company ordered both EcoBoost and V8 versions of the truck. I’d be curious to know if one version of the truck is better suited for particular work than the other?

Are there certain conditions where the EcoBoost’s complexity just doesn’t cut it? Or do they just like to have a mix to have a mix?

Are you in a workplace that has purchased the new F-150? Let us know in the forums!
