Nearly 830,000 Fords Recalled for Side Door Latches
If you’re driving a car, chances are there’s something wrong with it. If the cause of the problem were from normal time and wear, that’d be understandable, but unfortunately in today’s world, people are consistently taking delivery of vehicles that already have issues right off the production line. This week it’s Ford recalling around 830,000 2013-15 C-MAX, 2013-15 Escape, 2012-15 Focus, 2015 Mustang, 2015 Lincoln MKC, and 2014-16 Transit Connect.
Why? The “pawl spring tab in the side door latch could break,” and Ford wants to replace them. Basically, the doors might have trouble properly latching, and even if they do latch, they might unlatch while unexpectedly. Worst case scenario, of course, is that the door flies open while you’re driving with somebody in the same seat.
This is occurring in vehicles that have been produced for the past three years, and Ford has found that it happens more often in states with higher temps and solar loading, so the focus is currently on Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Oregon and Washington. Call your local Ford dealer to see if your vehicle falls into this recall.
