Mike Crowley, Ford’s marketing manager for cars and crossovers, brings customer and dealer perspectives to his assignment of communicating Taurus attributes to the car-buying public.

A California native, Crowley grew up in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas, in Austin. He started in the oil and gasoline industry, but a volatile environment pushed Crowley to seek employment in the automotive wholesale sector.

"My career with Ford started in the fall of 1985, just as the ground-breaking new 1986 Taurus was being introduced to the Ford dealers," Crowley said.

Twelve years of regional sales and marketing experience significantly contributed to Crowley’s broadening outlook. The voices of the dealer and the car-buying public always resonated for Crowley while serving in these regional Ford capacities. He saw firsthand how each sales initiative and promotional concept worked – or not – by building relationships with dealers. Crowley’s frontline experience supporting Ford’s retail network provided valuable insights as his career brought him to Dearborn, working in sales and marketing staff positions.

"Sure we’re in the automobile business, but my field background also taught me that we’re in the people business as well," reflected Crowley. "Relationships with dealers and field staff enabled me to see both dealer and customer perspectives, as I began to contribute to numerous new-vehicle launch programs."

The automobile industry allows Crowley to mix his vocation with personal passion. A lifelong car enthusiast, his garage houses both a classic 1967 Ford Mustang fastback and a 2004 Ford SVT Focus. Both vehicles, according to Crowley, are continual "works in progress."

His thoughts on the new Taurus?

"Five years from now, we’ll look back on the launch of the 2010 Taurus and say that’s when Ford reclaimed their rightful place as the technology, value and style leader in the car segment," added Crowley. "We’re excited, our dealers are excited and we think customers will be, too."
