Ken Block Loves This Ford Escort, Hates Its Rear Tires

Escort 2

Ken Block must listen to Willie Nelson because he’s proof that “You Always Hurt the One You Love.” Regarding the car you see here, he said, “This Escort Mk2 is special to me, it’s actually my first Ford rally car.”

After buying it in 2008, Block had his Hoonigan Racing Division turn the diminutive donut machine into a rear-wheel-drive tarmac-focused Gymkhana star. The 1978 Ford Escort Mk2 RS is now wider and features a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that cranks out an incredible 333 horsepower and spins to an ear-ringing 9,000-rpm redline. That’s connected to a six-speed sequential gearbox.

Those components certainly add up to a lovable package, but if Block is so fond of it, he has an odd way of showing it. He turns the Escort’s rear tires into smoke and half-melted camera lens confetti.
