Hennessey VelociRaptor V8 is ‘the Real V8 Raptor’ of Your Dreams

By -

For those disappointed because the Raptor has a V6, the Hennessey VelociRaptor V8 delivers a supercharged V8 (for triple the price).

For most of us, the F-150 Raptor is the perfect high-performance truck. For around $50,000, you get a set of FOX Racing shock absorbers, a military-grade aluminum body, a nice set of Recaro buckets, and of course, a 450-horsepower twin-turbo 24-valve DOHC 3.5-liter V6.

A few of us, though, aren’t too keen on turbos and V6s. For them, a real truck has a V8, and if it has a supercharger, that’s even better. For them, Autoweek has found their perfect Raptor: the Hennessey VelociRaptor V8.

Dubbed “the real V8 Raptor” by Hennessey Performance, the VelociRaptor V8 loses the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and gains a 5.0-liter V8 with a 2.9-liter supercharger. The combo puts out 758 horses at seven pounds of boost through the 10-speed automatic, which sends this monster off the line to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and reaches the end of the quarter-mile in 12.2 seconds at 115 mph.

Aside from the big engine swap, the VelociRaptor V8 gains a set of 20-inch wheels enclosed in 37-inch off-road tires, stainless steel cat-back exhaust, a custom pair of front and rear bumpers, and tons of performance upgrades and tuning to make this reptile roar deep in the heart of Texas.

If the VelociRaptor V8 is the V8 Raptor you’ve been waiting for, don’t wait too long. Hennessey plans to build 100 for the 2019 model year, each one costing $147,950 (including the cost of a 2019 F-150 Raptor). The VelociRaptor does come with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty covering the truck and upgrades, though, which means one less thing to worry about when burning up the drag strip.
