Several weeks ago, the 2017 Ford Raptor competed in the stock class in the Best in the Desert series race, called the Mint 400. This grueling off-road race is tough on trucks, even the ones purpose-built for this race. However, Ford partnered with a race team to bring out a virtually stock truck for the event. They even invited people along for the drive.

Mark Williams of PickupTrucks.com was there with a camera and was given unique access to the truck. Not only did he get to interview the race team and take a deep dive into the truck, but he also had a chance to actually ride with the team during one lap of the race.

The Raptor wasn’t modified much, but a third seat was installed in the middle of the rear of the SuperCab for the purpose of taking a passenger. Of course, a full roll cage and racing seats are required, but it should be noted that the stock stereo was left in the truck, and that they were listening to satellite radio the whole time.
