FTE Members Prepare for Epic Road Trip in 1968 Ford F-100!
After falling under the spell of a beautiful vintage F-100, two car guys-turned-truck enthusiasts head out on the adventure of a lifetime.
Is there anything better than the great American road trip? Wind in your hair, good tunes on the radio, and gorgeous scenery in front of you? Well, how about a great Canadian road trip? Our friends and Ford Truck Enthusiasts members David + Don are getting ready to embark on a journey across our neighbor to the north. Even better, they’re doing it in a newly-purchased 1968 Ford F-100. And the whole idea started right here at FTE in this thread.
“Hey all! I bought a truck in Osoyoos BC and I’m driving it back to Ontario. It’s a 1968 Ford F-100 with the straight 6 and a four speed manual transmission. I had it looked over by a local shop in Osoyoos. They rebuilt the carb top to bottom, four new tires, engine seals and some general tightening and electrical. One of the mechanics (Mike) was a great guy and he even drove it to and from work for a while to make sure it saw some road time before I head out.”
Even better, the truck was originally built in Ontario, so this is a homecoming of sorts. But the story of how this whole thing came about is even more interesting!
David was just cruising around through the local classifieds when he spotted the Ford F-100. Though he’s admittedly not a truck guy, David immediately fell in love with the old pickup. Well, a self-induced country music binge probably didn’t help either. So, for the paltry sum of one grand (Canadian), David is now the proud new owner of one sweet ride. And he’s already picked out an appropriate playlist for the long journey!
Luckily, the seller was kind enough to drop off the truck at the aforementioned mechanic to make sure it was mechanically sound for the coming road trip, which, by the way, is at least a 40-hour commute back to Toronto. And as proud new truck owners, David and Don want to meet up with fellow enthusiasts along the way! (Connect with David and Don in the FTE forums and on Twitter.)
Even if you can’t make the trip up north, you can follow along right here in the forums as the duo make their way cross country. We’ll also be posting updates on Instagram and Facebook, so give us a follow if you haven’t already. And while you’re there, cheer on our Canadian duo as they bring one old 1968 Ford F-100 back home again.
