Short bed, regular cab Ford F-150 is the perfect do-it-all ride, no matter what you need to do.

Every one of us have our own reasons for owning a truck. These days, it’s not uncommon to use your pickup for everything from towing and hauling to daily driving. But if you’re looking for a cool side vehicle that’s both a cool cruiser and tow rig, you won’t do much better than this nicely done 1996 Ford F-150 that we recently spotted in the FTE Marketplace.

And that’s because the current owner set out to make this pickup exactly that. It reportedly took quite a while just to find a suitable candidate, which doesn’t surprise us. After all, short bed, regular cab, 300 straight-six trucks from this era don’t exactly grow on trees these days. Once the perfect Ford F-150 candidate was found, two years of wrenching followed.

There are a couple of dents on the body, but this former power company truck still looks pretty fantastic. The wheels up front are stock, but the rears are 15×8 Wheel Vintique pieces with Ford hubcaps. The raked stance comes courtesy of 2-inch drop both front and rear. A muffler delete and refurbished interior are all welcome fixes.

Then there’s that legendary engine under the hood – the mighty 300ci straight-six. As usual, it’s still in excellent running shape. The P.O. has updated the entire spark side of things with an MSD Blaster coil, Copper plugs, and Accel cap and rotor. A dual electric fan keeps things cool on long towing trips, and there’s a rebuilt tranny with a shift kit behind it.

And that’s all you need for a fun, reliable, useful cruiser. This Ford F-150 has pretty much everything you need and nothing you don’t, and we absolutely love it. Now if we could just figure out a way to get it from Oregon into our garage!
