FTE Marketplace Finds: 2000 Excursion Limited 4×4
Though a bit rough around the edges, this Ford truck is ready to continue making long road trips and pulling trailers.
We have a few gift ideas for the Ford fan in your life (or yourself) for the holiday season, but what if you’re looking for a Ford truck to leave in the driveway with a big red bow on the hood? Why not have a look through the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Marketplace? We have everything from projects to complete trucks and SUVs there, including, possibly, the right Ford for you?
In fact, we happened upon a Ford that’s ready for the next excursion to Grandmother’s house after a little TLC.
2000 Excursion Limited v10 4wd
“Sold our travel trailer, and need something more kid-learning-to-drive and wife friendly,” says the current owner, FTE forum member 3cv “Would take on the road without concern and do, regularly travel with it between Tx and Ks.”
While most of the photos of the Excursion are either closeups of the exterior or the undercarriage, there are at least a couple of photos showing off the massive interior, draped in tan leather seating for the whole family. Dark wood trim accents on the door and console help warm things up, too.
Up ahead of the roomy interior is the 6.8-liter Triton V10, which made 300 horses and 430 lb-ft of torque back in the day. A four-speed automatic delivers the power to the rear corners, all corners with the manual locking hubs in play. The Excursion also has a new AC compressor, headrests for the third row, new rear driveshaft U-joints, and a new gasket where the oil filter and cooler are mounted.
Of course, an Excursion that’s been on a few excursions over the years has a few issues, too, such as a failed break-in resulting in a door lock that won’t accept keys anymore, the driver’s seat restitched by hand to keep it all together, and a quirky security system that needs its fob to function. The seller adds that the four-wheel drive system “does not engage the transfer case, no light on dash, that old story”; therefore, it’s only rear-wheel drive for now. But, with a little TLC, this Excursion will be ready for more long road trips in no time.
