‘Four Wheeler’ Names 2017 Raptor ‘Truck of the Year’
‘Thrill Ride’ Raptor Gets High Marks for Power and Suspension
The automotive enthusiast world waited patiently for the second-generation Ford F-150 Raptor. With each press release about its new features, each video showing it flying over sand and crawling over rocks, expectations grew higher. It seems as if the 2017 Raptor was worth the wait. To Four Wheeler, at least.
The publication’s staff tested seven off-road trucks, including the Ram Power Wagon, Nissan Titan XD PRO-4X and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, all in the quest for its “2017 Pickup Truck of the Year.” They took each one through hundreds of miles of various challenging surfaces. Love it or hate it, the high-output EcoBoost V6 in the Raptor helped separate it from its rivals and power it to victory. According to Four Wheeler:
“This formidable powertrain, combined with the Raptor’s BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, locking rear axle, Fox Racing front and rear shocks, and multiple terrain settings, got the Raptor over and through everything the judges threw at it.”
Speaking of throwing, Ford made sure to throw this great news up on its media site. It also made sure to highlight the fact that the new Raptor’s “upgraded FOX Shocks are 44 percent larger with three-inch diameter shock canisters” and enable an “increase in suspension travel to 13-inches at the front and 13.9-inches at the rear (a 0.8-inch front and 1.9-inch rear increase in wheel travel compared to its predecessor).”
Of course, all of this awesomeness is perfectly summed up by Four Wheeler in one straightforward sentence: “The all-new 2017 Ford Raptor is the truck equivalent of an amusement park thrill ride.”
