Ford Truck Owners Band Together to Fight Rampant Theft
Thieves are stealing Ford Super Duty pickups left and right, so let these sobering tales serve as an important lesson.
Ford trucks are, without question, the most popular vehicle in the U.S. Heck, they’ve been the best-selling vehicle here for four plus decades and counting. This popularity is good for a lot of reasons. Parts are abundant and cheap, resale value is great, and a ton of R&D money flows into the trucks we drive. But there is also a very dark side to this popularity – Ford trucks are also quite popular with thieves.
We’ve covered this topic many times in the past, unfortunately. Mainly because theft of Ford F-Series trucks is reaching critical levels in many U.S. cities. Truthfully, it was only a matter of time before some of these victims decided to take action. One unlucky soul, Dave Brucker of Raytown, Missouri, is doing just that via his Facebook group Stolen KC.
Bruckner lost his own Ford Super Duty to theft years ago, and wanted to create a place where others could share their information. And as he quickly found out, his preferred truck is quite the hot item in the Kansas City area.
“They’re just out here having a hay day,” Brucker told Fox 4 News. “What they do is they steal the truck, commonly then the truck can steal the trailer. They’ll steal the trailer and then they go after equipment that they are after. They were meant to be fleet vehicles, so the ignitions are easy to remove. So literally it’s a screw driver.”
Sadly, most Ford truck owners are discovering this weakness the hard way. Since its inception, there have been dozens upon dozens of posts in the Stolen KC group featuring lost Super Duty pickups. And in some cases, the thieves don’t even bother waiting until it’s dark or the owners were asleep before striking. “All the lights were on in the house, even the outside lights, and all our vehicles were locked,” fellow victim Sergio Tovar told Fox 4 News. “And we didn’t hear it crank up at all.”
Another victim, Kim Piper, found out about this trend far too late as well. “There’s at least one stolen every day,” Piper told Fox 4 News. “They are easy to get into. They are easy to steal. Had I known I would have taken a lot different measures than just keeping my truck locked.”
These are sobering tales for sure. But if you’re a Ford Super Duty owner, it’s important to heed these warnings. If you can’t fit your truck in the garage, it’s smart to invest in any number of anti-theft devices. These can include GPS tracking devices or a kill switch for the ignition. Both are very inexpensive, and most importantly, could save you a big headache one day.
