Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R-C Wins Big in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Race in Daytona

No. 15 Multimatic Ford Shelby GT350R-C

The Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge racing series pits race car against race car, but this past Friday, two horses came out on top.

Drivers Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell of the Multimatic team rode their No. 15 Shelby GT350R-C Mustang to a first-place finish at the Daytona International Speedway. According to Ford, “It’s the duo’s second win and third podium in the Shelby GT350R-C since the car debuted at Watkins Glen in 2015.”

Their closest competition? Pierre Kleinubing and Paul Holton in another Shelby GT350R-C. They and their No. 76 AERO Advanced Paint Technology/Children’s Tumor Foundation car entered by Compass360 Racing took second place.

It’s clear Ford’s use of a flat-plane-crank V8, a first for the company, didn’t cause problems for the Shelbys – and neither did their Continental tires. They were right at home in a race put on by their parent company, despite the conditions of the track changing from grippy to greasy.
