Ford Ranger Smokes Until a Tire Blows

YouTuber Cleetus McFarland offers to buy this Ranger owner a new tire.

This week’s “Tire Smokin’ Tuesday” video comes to us from the YouTube channel of Texas Drag Racing but rather than drag racing, it features a Ford Ranger attempting to hoon it up in a huge burnout area. This footage was captured at the “Cleetus and Cars” event in Houston, Texas on October 20, 2018, with the host and announcer being Garrett Mitchell, who is better known as YouTube’s Cleetus McFarland.

While the title’s claim of this being the best Ranger burnout, we would disagree, but it show shows a valiant effort by what looks to be a stock compact Ford pickup.

One Wheel Peel

There are no details on this Ford Ranger, but a few things are obvious. This truck is from the second generation of the model, so it is from the 1993 through 1997 model years. It sounds a manually-shifted transmission and a 4-cylinder engine, and based on its overall performance, we would guess that this pickup is powered by a stock 2.3-liter engine.

That 2.3-liter engine offered either 98 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque or 112 horsepower and 135 lb-ft of torque, depending on the year. In other words, this Ranger doesn’t have much power, but the driver still gives it the old college try in front of the big crowd.

It Gets Better

The video begins with Cleetus McFarland announcing the entry of the Ford Ranger as the small truck rolls into the huge burnout area. The driver brings the engine speed up and drops the clutch, trying to toss the back end around, but the truck doesn’t have enough power to drift.

The driver gets the truck moving once again and tries to do some more drifting without any success, but as he begins to drive the Ranger is fairly tight circles, the driver’s side rear tire begins to smoke.

In the end, it isn’t a great burnout, but the driver manages to keep that one tire smoking for more than a minute, until the tire fails and disintegrates. The crowd cheers for the Ranger driver, as having a tire come apart is the ultimate goal in this type of burnout display, but best of all, Cleetus announces that the driver of the red Ford find him at the show so that he can buy the driver a new tire.
