Ford Aims to Push the Envelope with Next-Gen Powertrains
That open-mindedness includes a potential partnership with other manufacturers on electric motors, a la the 10-speed transmission co-developed with GM. Filipe makes it clear that “electrification is another addition to our powertrain portfolio,” but it isn’t the only one. Fans of the internal combustion engine will be happy to know that Ford isn’t ready to give up on gas.
“We’ll have to keep doing both,” Filipe admits. “The internal combustion engine is not going to fade away overnight. There are some really great new technologies that continue to advance and we can help deliver lower C02 and enhanced performance and driveability. We will continue to mature that as we simplify our architectures going forward.”
Thankfully, electric power won’t be forced on truck owners anytime soon. Which is great news, obviously. And still, we’re curious to see how far Ford can push the powertrain envelope moving forward!
