The enduring impact of everyone’s favorite comedy was on full display when this Ford recreation crossed the block.

There are a lot of famous movie cars out there, many just as famous (or even more so) as their human counterparts. But if you grew up in the ’80s, few compare to the Ford LTD dubbed the “Family Truckster” from the legendary comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation. This simple movie, centered around the good ol’ American family vacation, single-handedly reshaped the comedic landscape for years to come. And that enduring impact was on full display at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach.

It was there that a recreation of the movie’s famous Ford LTD station wagon sold for an astounding $100,100. Yes, a tribute to the original movie car, albeit a masterfully faithful one. The builder of this machine went to great lengths to capture every little detail present on the original. From the Wagon Queen badges to the missing hubcap and double-stacked headlights up front, it’s all there in its original big screen glory.

And honestly, there’s nothing we’d rather experience a series of unmitigated vacation disasters in with our “loved ones” than this. Even if this Metallic Pea beauty isn’t exactly what Chevy Chase‘s character Clark Griswold ordered in the first place. The intent was to make this thing as ugly as humanly possible, we’re sure. But that just adds to the charm.

Yes, nothing sums up the American family road trip quite like a massive, green, wood-paneled station wagon. Back in the days before boring SUVs took over as our family trucksters of choice. And by the time you get home, we bet you’ll need plastic surgery to remove your smile after singing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah the whole way back!
