Ford Hints at New SUVs, But Doesn’t Mention Bronco Directly
Monday at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, I sat alongside my friends and colleagues at Joe Louis Arena to take in the Ford press conference. I had already seen and covered the Raptor SuperCrew, and I knew about the Fusion. But would there be a surprise? Would get get a glimpse at a new Ranger or Bronco?
No. No we didn’t.
But don’t give up hope, friends. While Mark Fields was talking to the crowd, he mentioned that the company would be working on 4 new SUVs to come along in the next couple of years. He didn’t give any indication on what they’d be, or how many years that actually was, but that’s good news.
Last year, the Ford Edge was refreshed significantly. Also, the Ford Explorer comes as all-new. So those two vehicles can’t be part of the four that Mr. Fields suggested.
While being a slow seller, the Ford Flex is a profitable vehicle for Ford, with an extremely loyal fanbase. That’s more-than-likely one of the vehicles.
Also, the Ford Expedition is in need of a major overhaul, so we believe that to be another one of the four. The Excursion would round out the list of SUVs we know of that could be refreshed shortly.
That leaves one spot open. What could that one spot be? Why would Mark Fields even talk about it at a big press conference if it’s just a refresh of vehicles they already have?
