Ford F-150 Trophy Truck Tackles Baja on a Budget

F-150 Trophy Truck

Budget F-150 trophy truck proves you don’t have to spring for a new Raptor to tackle the world’s toughest off-road race.

Anyone who’s ever dreamed of flying across the desert or participating in the legendary Baja 1000 race can do so these days with relative ease. Thanks to the Ford Raptor, of course. When Ford reworked its high performance four-wheeler for 2017, it made high speed off-road runs as easy as pushing a button. Literally. And as we’ve already seen, it doesn’t take much to prep a stock Raptor for Baja.

Except that steep price of entry, of course. If you don’t have 60k+ to invest in a truck, let alone the extra money it takes to purchase all the safety gear you have to add, fret not. Because we’ve found this gem of an F-150 trophy truck for less than half that price. And it’s about as turn key as it gets for desert racing. Heck, even if you don’t have dreams of participating in organized racing, it’s hard to find anything with a better fun to cost ratio.

But if you do, this 1998 F-150 trophy truck was prepped specifically for Baja racing. So you’ll find things like a full roll cage, rear-mounted dual oil coolers, and a custom long-travel suspension. But this truck also retains a full interior with working air conditioning and power windows and locks. Heck, there’s even a stereo. The seller won’t go so far as to say that the F-150 trophy truck is street legal. But depending on where you live, it might be.

But we doubt you’d want to spend too much time on the street if you owned something like this. The lure of those sloping sand dunes is far too great. Even better, you won’t have to take out a second mortgage to heed that call!
