Ford F-150 Out-Tows Nissan Titan XD in Popular Trim
One of the more popular truck launches this year comes from the folks over at Nissan. The Titan XD, powered by a 5.0L Cummins diesel engine making 555 lb-ft of torque sounds like an interesting proposition. Surely, something designed to sit in a class about the F-150 would be able to out-tow the F-150? Perhaps not.
Sure, on basic trims the Titan XD has the F-150 licked (remember, Titan XD is competition for F-250, not F-150), but let’s look at a popular selling F-150 configuration; the Platinum. With four-wheel drive the F-150 Platinum equipped with the Max Towing Package can tow 10,700 pounds according to the towing guide published by Ford.
Just recently Nissan published the towing capacity of the Nissan Titan XD on their media site’s official press kit, available here. If you look closely, in four-wheel drive trim, the Titan XD’s maximum towing for the Platinum Reserve trim is 10,608 pounds. While 92 pounds doesn’t seem like a lot, the Titan XD sits in Class 2B above the F-150.
There’s more to the truck experience than numbers on a page, but even though we’ve driven the new Titan XD we are under embargo for the time being. It should be noted that the numbers posted on Nissan’s site are still considered preliminary. However, for the time being, it seems the engineers at Ford have scored a victory with the F-150.
