F-150

It’s no surprise that America’s best-selling vehicle is also the most popular online. And just like that, the F-150 claims another title.

How many car models and even car companies have come and gone in your lifetime? Certainly, quite a few. Mainly because things are constantly evolving at the mercy of consumers approval or disapproval. But there’s one thing that’s remained the same for 40 years, and that’s the F-150’s sale leadership.

As you may already know, the F-150 has been America’s best-selling vehicle (not just pickup truck) for 40 years straight. Now, according to the staple automotive publication, Autotrader, it turns out it’s also the most searched nameplate online.

After performing an internal study, Autotrader published a list of the 10 most-searched new cars on their site. Because they’re also celebrating their 20th anniversary, they’ve compared the current F-150 against their 20-year-old counterpart, the 1997 model.

1997 F-150

Back in 1997, the F-150 finally stepped out of its boxy costume and into a brand new, curvy design. The new generation was praised by the media and consumers for its ride quality, road manners, as well as its new features. Three years before Y2K, the average price for a new vehicle was $17,000. Compare that to $33,560 in 2016.

As you may already know, the 2017 Ford F-150 is drastically different. Sporting an aluminum body, twin-turbocharged V6 engines, and room for the entire family, the F-150 has retained the best of its lineage while constantly evolving.

In case you’re wondering, here are the remaining nine most-searched cars:

2: Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra
3: Jeep Wrangler
4: Ram 1500/2500
5: Chevrolet Camaro
6: Toyota Tacoma
7: Ford Mustang
8: Jeep Grand Cherokee
9: Chevrolet Tahoe
10: Toyota Tundra
