Watch the Ford F-150 Undergo IIHS Overlap Crash Testing

By -

Horsepower, torque, and tow ratings are important, but none of them matter if you’re dead. Watch the F-150 get destroyed in the name of safety.

Oftentimes we get carried away with advanced technology, engine performance, and the latest and greatest designs and capabilities. But, we must remember that accidents happen, and when they do, none of the aforementioned characteristics will lower our chances of meeting the Reaper. And no, we’re not referring to the Chevy truck.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is one of the top authorities for crash test ratings in the world. Although their findings only affect state-bound vehicles, their findings are utilized for research across the globe. This video from their YouTube channel was posted back in 2016, but it’s as relevant today as it was then.

This particular footage focuses on overlap crash testing, which is becoming more and more important due to the risk it poses to vehicle occupants. In fact, an overlap crash is deadlier than a full head-on collision, as it manages to stress the vehicle’s structure and safety systems in a very unique manner.

Watch as the Ford F-150 emerges superior in overlap crash testing, and becomes the only pickup truck to earn the “Top Safety Pick” award in such category.
