Ford F-150 EV Must Defeat These Five Trucks for Electric Supremacy

The Ford F-150 EV will arrive by mid-2022, but when it does, it’ll enter a rather crowded field of electric trucks.

Traditional truck fans may loathe the idea, but in reality, electric pickups are coming. And they’re coming fast. In fact, the Blue Oval recently announced that the Ford F-150 EV will arrive by mid-2022, and various others will be on sale before that. The electric truck may be something fairly new, but over the next couple of years, it’s going to be a hotly contested market.

The Ford F-150 EV has a leg up on much of the competition for a variety of reasons. For starters, the F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for decades. Ford also has considerable resources as one of the world’s largest automakers, and they clearly know how to build great trucks. But you can bet they aren’t counting out these five emerging competitors, which certainly deserve a closer look.

Ford made a large investment in upstart EV builder Rivian just last year. The move granted the automaker access to Rivian’s innovative “Skateboard” platform for future EV models. But on the flip side of things, the R1T is a direct competitor to the Ford F-150 EV. The R1T is a little pricey, starting out at $69,000. But it also offers 750 horsepower from four electric motors, an 11,000-pound towing capacity, 400 miles of range, and legit off-road capability, according to Rivian. It’s expected to go on sale in late 2020.
