Flashback Friday: EcoBoost F-150 Beats LS1 GTO
Because Not All LS Engines Rule the Road, This Ford F-150 Shows Who’s Boss
This week’s Flashback Friday video features a quarter-mile drag race between a 2015 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, and a Pontiac GTO. It might sound like a dysfunctional pair, but it’s actually a match made in heaven!
The details are short, but based on craigaria’s other videos, this 3.5-liter EcoBoost F-150 is completely stock. Furthermore, the comments on this video lead us to believe the LS1 GTO has been fitted with long tube headers and catback exhaust. In addition, a cold-air intake and pulleys have been installed for added power.
Considering the level of work done to the GTO, and the lack of performance modifications on the Ford F-150, you might expect the Pontiac coupe to outrun the big Ford truck. But you would be wrong, and this video is the proof!
The 2015 F-150 uses its four-wheel drive system to make the most of its 365 horsepower, quickly pulling out to an early lead. The sweet roar of the GTO’s V8 engine is evident as it attempts to run down the F-150. While we can’t read the score boards due to the brutal video quality, there’s no question that the F-150’s board activates up first with the win light on top.
Unfortunately, the video owner doesn’t remember what he ran on this run, but he explains that his stock truck typically runs in the mid-14s. In most cases, an LS1 GTO would run quicker than that. As in what happened to the agile little Pontiac? Who knows! And honestly, do we really care?
