Ford F-150 3.0L Diesel Engine Owner’s Manual Leaked!
According to the owner’s manual, the new 3.0-liter diesel engine will feature a 3.31 and 3.55 rear axle ratio. But what about engine specs?
The upcoming 3.0-liter turbodiesel for the 2018 Ford F-150 has been received with much fanfare. Whether folks will actually buy it or not is yet to be seen, but at least the initial response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Not too long ago we made the pilgrimage to Hell, Michigan to drive the 2018 F-150, and even though several F-Series engineers and product managers were present, all of them remained silent about the upcoming diesel. Well, there’s no more keeping quiet, because Ford recently published the new F-150 owner’s manual, and with it, several key specs about the new diesel engine. Oops!
The good folks at TFLnow actually made the discovery, so it seems it actually pays off to read encyclopedia-sized manuals, huh? As you can see on the screenshot we’ve taken directly from the manual, it highlights the GCVRW, axle ratio and engine capacity for the different engines.
According to Ford, the 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4×4 equipped with the 3.0-liter engine will have a maximum GCVRW of 17,100 pounds or 7,575 kilos. Furthermore, it will be offered with a 3.31 or 3.55 rear axle ratio. While this doesn’t translate into exact towing capacity, the TFL guys believe it could translate into nearly 12,000 pounds. For a half-ton truck — wow.
Ford Truck Enthusiasts combed the manual looking for engine specifications or other clues on the popular engine, but we came back empty-handed. Unfortunately, we’re left in the dark when it comes to horsepower, torque, and EPA fuel-economy ratings. We guess it’s only a matter of time!
What do you think, are these specs getting you excited about buying one?
