Ford EcoSport Spied in the U.S.
From reports on Autoblog and Autoweek, it looks like Ford is preparing to build a version of the EcoSport for U.S. consumption. It’s recently been seen in testing and camo around several states with a mid-cycle refresh face due to come out as a 2017 model.
It’s already sold in 62 markets and, with CUV sales gaining steam here, we could make for number 63. It’s currently sold in India, Asia, and South America so seeing it here is a rather odd occurrence and why many are speculating that we’re due for a version when the third-generation debuts as a 2018 or 2019 model year vehicle.
The EcoSport is roughly based off of the Ford Fiesta and is part of the global B-segment platform. It was also the replacement for the Ford Escape in Southeast Asia. The first generation was built in Brazil at the Camacari plant but additional plants for the EcoSport were opened in Chennai, India, Vietnam, and Russia from increased demand. It’s available in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with a 1.0-liter I3; 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, and 2.0-liter I4; and a 1.5-liter diesel I4. It can also come as an six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual.
