For Those About to Rock: ‘FTE’ Members Build Badass Music Playlist
Seven years ago, one FTE forum member asked a simple question: ‘Whatcha listenin’ to?’ Today, the list has plenty of hits for you and your Ford.
One of the best things one can do in their Ford truck or SUV is crank up the stereo. Whether it’s a classic with a cassette or eight-track, or a new truck with Sync 3 and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, a soundtrack to your drive is a necessity. All you need is the right playlist to fit your style.
Back in January 2013, one of our Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum members asked a simple question: “Whatcha listenin’ to?” Seven years later, the thread is nearly 200 pages long, filled with plenty of songs to choose from. Let’s see what our members have loaded on the jukebox.

he 1990 thrash extravaganza by the legendary Slayer (or as loyalists know them, Slaaaaaaaayyyyeeeeerrrrrr!!!!). Sometimes, you just gotta slowly build up to your day, like this jam does before doing a big burnout off the line. It also has the sickest drum break, too.
Jumping ahead to late March of 2015, Club FTE member and forum mod BIGKEN dropped a big Southern rock classic with “Simple Man” from Lynard Skynyrd. The song is from the Florida band’s debut album, released in 1973. Though some may know this one from those Busch beer ads from a few years ago, this is one whiskey-and-bourbon-soaked mainstay for those warm summer nights in the back of your Ford.
Now in mid-May of 2018, FORDF250HDXLT takes us back to the late Eighties and the supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. The group — comprised of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty — formed after Harrison wanted to release an album with this friends following the success of his 1987 record, Cloud Nine. “End of the Line” was released as a single in late January 1989, following Orbison’s passing the month prior.
In early October 2019, Club FTE member lonewolf_ gave us a few cuts from Bobby Vinton, including “Mr. Lonely.” The song, about an overseas soldier with no way to call home, became a hit among the very soldiers Vinton sang about in the early Sixties. The song reached No. 1 on the charts in December of 1964.
Finally, from late February 2020, super mod Maxium4x4 took us to England, where Sir Tom Jones knocked out a rendition of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood” on The Voice U.K. Jones is always good at putting a spring in anyone’s step, and this cover is no exception.
