Fishing for a Free F-150 in Texas: Throwback Thursday
F-150 was the most-capable truck when hooked to a bass boat back in 2013.
Ford Motor Company is always looking for non-traditional ways to promote their products, both at the corporate level and at the regional level, with the help of local dealerships and dealership groups. This week’s Throwback Thursday video is from Texas Ford and it features a commercial from 2013 that promoted the F-150 while also talking about the automaker’s involvement with a major event in the local fishing world.
Fishing in Texas
The video above from the startournament YouTube channel begins with a few scenic ocean views from around Texas, pointing out the fact that state has 600 miles of coastline. The spot then reminds us that the 2013 F-150 was the best truck for fishing from that model year. With best-in-class towing capacity of 11,300 pounds and standard trailer sway control, Ford’s half-ton handles a big fishing boat better than any of the competitors.
Of course, the 2013 F-150 also offered a variety of powerful engines that would make short work of towing a boat in any condition, and for the angler who drives deep into the woods to find their favorite spot, the half-ton Ford can handle rough off-road conditions.
Fishing for a Ford
Back in 2013, the Texas area Ford dealership group sponsored the State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo, one of the state’s leading fishing competitions. As part of their sponsorship program, the first five fishermen to catch specially tagged fish won a 2013 Ford F-150. Mind you, that is in addition to the regular awards of the tournament, so for five lucky and skilled anglers, the event led to a brand new Ford truck.
Needless to say, offering up five free trucks allowed Texas Ford dealers to advertise their vehicles to a group of prospective buyers who are the most likely to appreciate the advantages of America’s best-selling pickup.
