Is Fiat Professional’s Fullback the New Ranger Fighter from Ram?

By -

While we don’t often cover foreign-market launches here, except to bug Ford about bringing us a new Ranger, sometimes there’s something that just piques our interest. Today’s subject is a small truck that Fiat Professional just revealed at the Dubai Auto Show. You’re looking at the Fullback, and could it be the truck that Ram Trucks uses to attack the U.S. Ranger we know is coming?

Powering the Fullback is a 2.4L diesel engine making 150 or 180 horsepower. We’ve recently driven the Colorado with the 2.8L Duramax diesel, and it’s the Colorado to get. Assuming that Ram Trucks were to bring the Fullback here, we think it’d need the diesel to be competitive.

Of course, there are issues with bringing a foreign market truck to the United States, as we discussed here with the Chicken Tax and crash safety requirements, but the small pickup truck market is heating up here in the United States, and with Ford entering the fray with a new Ranger, Ram Trucks will suddenly be one of the few manufacturers without a competitor truck.

We reached out to Ram Trucks to see if there is any talk about bringing this new Fullback to the United States. They would not comment on future or potential future products.

Will this Fullback be a Ranger fighter? We’ll have to wait and see.
