F-250 Proves that Persistence Pays Off: Tire Smokin’ Tuesday
Ford truck can’t seem to spin its tires at first, but the driver figures it out and the crowd goes wild.
This week’s “Tire Smokin’ Tuesday” video comes to us from the Lucky Vagabond YouTube channel and it features a first generation Ford F-250 FX4 Super Duty participating in a burnout competition. Shot during Truck Jam 2018 at Palm Beach International Raceway, it shows that if at first you don’t succeed, you should always try again. And that’s because, what starts off as an embarrassing attempt turns into an incredible smoke show!
A Sad Start
The video begins as the track announcer prepares the crowd for a burnout by a first generation (1999-2007) Ford F-250 Super Duty. We don’t get any details on the truck, but it is powered by a turbo diesel engine that creates some soot and seems fairly loud, so we are going to guess that it is not stock. A modified, diesel-powered Super Duty should be a tire-smoking beast, but the driver of this F-250 lets the crowd down.
On go, the driver gets the rear tires spinning, but they stop right away. They spin a little more, and then they stop again, at which point the crowd begins to make jokes. A track official spends some time talking to the driver, possibly showing the driver how to turn off the traction control before another try.
On the next attempt, the burnout is a bit better, as the tires are spinning and there is some smoke being created, but the effort is still fairly lackluster.
Explosion of Smoke
After about a minute of the F-250 struggling to spin the tires with the truck inching forward, the tires finally get to spinning and smoking hard. At that point, the burnout action picks up and within a few seconds, the truck disappears into a cloud of smoke as the crowd goes wild.
Remember, if at first you don’t success, try, try again.
