Lightning vs. Lightning: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday Presented by Nitto Tire

By -

A couple of badass Ford F-150 pickups flex their muscles in the 8th mile.

This week’s Truckin Fast Wednesday video comes to us from the CosalaRekordz YouTube channel and it features a pair of first generation F-150 Lightnings going head-to-head on an 8th mile drag strip. Based on the brief description, the red F-150 is said to be the fastest Lightning in California and after watching the video, we are inclined to believe that claim.

Two F-150 Lightnings Racing

The Competitors

Both of the trucks in action in the video above are first generation Ford F-150 SVT Lightning pickups. These trucks would have come from the factory with a 5.8-liter V8 delivering 240 horsepower, but it is safe to say that neither of these F-150s have many (if any) factory engine components.

We don’t have any details, but we know that the red truck is called Te La Rayo and the green and black truck is called The Snail. The red Lightning does its burnout first and it easily roasts the huge rear tires, but we don’t hear any obvious forced induction sounds. On the other hand, the Snail definitely sounds like it has forced induction, doing an equally-sweet burnout.

The Race

After each of these first gen Lightnings clean off their tires, they ease to the starting line. As the drivers wait for the green lights to drop, the engines scream and we can hear the anti-lag system of the green truck do its thing. At that point, you might be expecting The Snail to beat the red F-150, but this race has a surprising outcome.

When the green lights drop, the Te La Rayo Lightning rips away from the line, leaving The Snail in its dust. We can only guess that the green and black truck ran into some issues at the starting line, as not only did it get beaten – but it ran a fairly lackluster elapsed time in the process.

In the end, the red Lightning ran a 6.20 at 112 miles per hour while The Snail ran an 8.39 at 101.
