F-150 Battles New Ram in Stock Shootout: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday
F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 makes short work of the 2019 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi.
This week’s Truckin Fast Wednesday comes from the Kunes Country TV YouTube channel and it features one of their “prize fights”, pitting a 2018 Ford F-150 against the new 2019 Ram 1500. The Ram has a little more power, but the Ford has the lightweight aluminum body – leaving us all wondering which will be quicker in a quarter mile duel.
The trucks in this video are a 2018 Ford F-150 and a 2019 Ram 1500. Both trucks have the largest cab configuration and both trucks have their optional V8 engine, with the Ram packing a combination of 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque while the Ford offers 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque from the 5.0-liter V8. Also, while both trucks appear to be four-wheel-drive models, the Ford has the new 10-speed transmission while the Ram is working with an 8-speed gearbox.
The biggest difference between these two aside from the transmission is the weight, as the Ford features the lightweight aluminum body while the Ram is predominantly steel – giving the Blue Oval truck a weight advantage.
The Racing Action
These trucks go head-to-head twice, with the Ram in the left lane and the F-150 in the right lane. In the first race, the Ram appears to jump out to an early lead, but by the time the two get to the finish line, the Ford is about a half-length ahead.
In the second race, the drivers switch and the Ford gets out to a great starting line advantage that slowly stretches to several lengths by the end of the quarter mile track.
Based on these two runs, it is clear which of these two half-ton trucks are quicker in the standard quarter mile, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!
