F-150 LED Bed Lighting Really Cranks Up the Lumens

By -

Factory F-150 bed lighting can leave you in the dark. But thankfully, upgrading to super-bright LEDs is a cinch.

The humble bed light has been around for decades. You know, that singular dim producer of (barely) any light mounted on the rear roof section of your F-150. Sure, it gets the job done. Kinda. But if you regularly load-unload gear and cargo in your truck bed, you’re probably wishing you had something, well, a little brighter. And one of the cooler solutions we’ve seen to this problem comes to us from a company called F150LEDS.

In this day and age, LED lighting has taken over as the preferred choice on modern vehicles. But this doesn’t include places like the cab or the bed area. Thankfully, the aftermarket is ready to rectify that situation. In this case, F150LEDS offers a Premium LED kit for the 2015+ F-150, which runs around $75 and includes a whopping 100+ LED bulbs in total.

The kit integrates seamlessly with your existing bed lights, if so equipped. They’re easy to install, plugging right into your factory harness. F150LEDS claims a 10-15 minute installation time per side, with no drilling required. And once they’re installed, the lights automatically turn on when you unlock (via the key fob) or open your doors, or activate them via a dashboard control module.

This video demonstrates just how easy it is to install these LED light strips. After wiping down the surface area underneath your bed rails, you simply remove the adhesive backing and tack them in place. A little silicone helps ensure they stay put, even in extreme weather conditions.

Once the lights are in place, you run two wires into the cab and connect the included splice connectors to the factory harness.

Overall, the LED bed light kit offers up a huge and seamless upgrade for a relatively low cost. And if there’s anything we can never have enough of, it’s light (well, and horsepower)!
