Even the 2015 F-150’s Seats Are Built Ford Tough

Seat Testing
Imagine that new job you just landed involves a lot of sitting. Actually, it’s pretty much nothing else. Sweet gig, right? Now imagine you have to sit down hundreds or thousands of times a day.

And you have to wear dirty jeans.

That’s the kind of work the Blue Oval gave to “a crew of big guys” while testing the durability of the seats in the 2015 F-150. Each fellow put on denim caked with dirt from Arizona’s Salt River Valley and got in and out of the rig over 10,000 times. Ford even created a specialized robot with a body-shaped attachment to accelerate the process. The end result should be durable thrones with leather that stays soft and supple.

Of course, the ultimate test is years and years of real-world use, which can begin as soon as the 2015 Ford F-150 goes on sale in the fourth quarter of this year.
