EcoBoost F-150 Burnout Stunt Goes Hilariously Wrong: Freaky Friday

By -

Patriotic video to celebrate the Fourth of July turns into a failed F-150 burnout and two guys with sore backs.

This week’s Freaky Friday video comes to us from the YouTube channel of The F150 Shop and it features a failed attempt at a burnout by a newer Ford F-150. In most cases, a failed burnout doesn’t make for a very interesting clip, but with two guys sitting in chairs suspended from the rear end who slam into the truck when the driver slams on the brakes, this smokeless show has a funny ending.

Fourth of July Burnout

To celebrate the Fourth of July, the crew from The F150 Shop wanted to make an exciting video with their F-150 shop truck. Their plan was to have a driver do a smoky burnout while two guys are sitting in chairs that are suspended from a boom attached to the trailer hitch. This chair rig looks like a great solution for comfortable seating at a tailgate party, but it there is a shortcoming to this system when it comes to using while the vehicle is in motion.

To drive home the point of celebrating the Fourth of July, one of the guys on the chairs out back is carrying an American flag while the other is holding a bottle of Jack Daniels. After all, what is more patriotic than a Ford F-150 doing a smoky burnout while two drunks dangle behind the truck while waving the American flag?

Nothing, but unfortunately, it doesn’t go as planned.

Traction Control Problems

We should start by pointing out that this Ford truck is capable of doing big, nasty burnouts and we know this because the truck has been featured before in our Tire Smokin’ Tuesday series. However, the driver in this video is unable to get the rear tires to spin and based on how the action progresses, it seems as though the traction control system is engaged.

In any case, the F-150 won’t spin the tires and as engine speed climbs, the truck eventually gets traction and speeds up through the parking lot. Upon realizing that the tires aren’t spinning, the driver slams on the brakes, causing both of the guys hanging from the rear end to slam into the tailgate. One guy falls out of his flimsy chair, moaning in pain while the other carefully gets up, also appearing to be in pain.

Fortunately, we know that both of these guys are ok, so we can laugh at the end result of this failed Ford F-150 burnout. In fact, they added some reasons to laugh, introducing music clips to the end of the video, using the sound of the guys slamming against the back of the F-150 for the beat.

Finally, it should be noted that after the American flag was dropped on the ground, a local Boy Scout troop was brought in to decommission the flag correctly.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
