Dirt Racer Makes NCWTS Debut at Eldora Speedway in Ford Truck
RJ Otto has has his share of success on unpaved surfaces, so Eldora’s Dirt Derby will make him feel right at home.
Getting a chance to showcase his talents on dirt in a new way, successful dirt modified racer RJ Otto will pilot a Ford truck at Eldora Speedway‘s Dirt Derby for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the first time.
Eldora is unique on the NCWTS schedule, being the only unpaved event of the year and draws a lot of attention for that very reason. Located in New Weston, Ohio, Eldora is a track where Otto has been victorious before, meaning his role in the No. 97 Chris Sanford Cattle | S&S Express Ford F150 should make him a solid contender.
Otto has already expressed a very positive attitude according to ESPN, saying, “I’m excited about this opportunity to make my Truck Series debut at Eldora. This is a huge chance for me to put myself and the JJL Motorsports team in the spotlight. It’s going to be a very competitive race, but we’re up for the challenge and I can’t wait to get going.”
JJL Motorsports is a bit of an underdog in the series compared to some other well-funded upper tier teams, but they don’t let that get in the way. In fact, they use it as motivation. Team Principal Jason Little remarks about the relationship with Ford: “As we continue to enhance our organization, we’re opening the doors to build a strong foundation with support from Ford Performance…” While it may be a shell on the outside that sorta kinda looks like an F150, the relationship with Ford Performance makes every ounce of this truck a Ford.
If you’re interested in following the action, you can catch the race – under the lights – live on Fox Sports 1 with coverage starting at 9 p.m. Eastern.
