Forum Spotlight: An Insane Six-Door Ford Super Duty!

By -

Six-Door  After a bad accident destroyed forum member, BioBurner‘s, beloved 2002 Ford F-350, he decided to take on an incredible project: Building a six-door Ford Super Duty!

Built using parts from at least five trucks, we could call it a Frankenstein creation just in time for Halloween, but that would undermine the careful planning and top-notch build-quality that BioBurner has put into this crazy project.

Starting with two frames (a 2009 and 2002 crew cab short bed trucks), the frame of the ’09 was lengthened by splicing-in parts of the ’02 frame, resulting in a wheelbase of almost 16 feet. The frame was carefully measured for straightness at various points along the way, and partially boxed for strength.

The project is a family affair, with BioBurner’s brother helping out with the welding, and his wife and kids helping out at different stages of the build. It’s great to see everyone getting involved, and it will only make the finished product that much sweeter once it’s done.

Most of the running gear comes courtesy of a 2006 F-550 that was purchased as a non-runner, which also donated front-end sheetmetal. The 6.0 PSD engine will be rebuilt with a few choice upgrades for durability, while work is finished on the cab and bed. The cab was acquired by BioBurner on a trade, and was made from two crew cabs welded together.

Without a body lift, a clever wooden scaffolding system was designed to carefully lift the cab off the trailer, then gently lower it onto the freshly painted and rustproofed frame. You can watch a time-lapse video of this and several other parts of the build process on BioBurner’s YouTube channel.

This six-door beast is certainly one to watch, and we can’t wait until it’s finished!
