Cleveland area Ford F-150 commercial features Indians manager as paid-advertising sports star.

This week’s “Throwback Thursday” video features a northern Ohio regional commercial for the 2000 Ford F-150, featuring the Cleveland Indians’ manager Charlie Manuel. After spending a few years as the hitting coach, Manuel was hired as the Indians’ manager for the 2000 season. To play on the popularity, Cleveland area Ford dealerships put together a unique commercial.

The commercial begins with an off-camera interviewer asking Charlie Manuel what’s the toughest thing he’s had to face all year? While it doesn’t make a world of sense, the Indians manager replies that there is nothing tougher than the Ford F-150. Aside from that, this is your average truck commercial – talking about the low cost of the vehicle, etc.

Take note of the fact that it refers to the 2000 F-150 XLT 4×2 with the Triton V8 as a “loaded” truck, which you could get for just $269 (24 month lease). For comparison, a 2017 F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4×2 with the 5.0L V8 costs $405 for a 24 month lease, which gives you a good look at how much the cost of the F-150 has increased in the past 17 model years.

Or should we say, how little?
