Can the 2016 Ford Mustang GT Out-Gallop the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS?
What a difference a badge makes.
In Motor Trend‘s recent comparison of the 2016 Mustang GT to the 2016 Camaro SS, the 3,672-pound Chevy was lighter and, with 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque from its 6.2-liter V8, more powerful than its 3,825-pound Blue Oval rival, which packed a 5.0-liter V8 with 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet. Thanks to its superior figures, the bow tie bruiser got to 60 mph a whopping 6/10s of a second faster (4.0) than the Mustang and through the quarter mile a half second (12.4 seconds) before it – and at a higher speed (114.6 vs. 110 mph). The publication also found the Camaro easier to drift and throw around.
However, the Mustang was quieter and more comfortable on the highway as well as impressively trimmed. You can put those grand touring manners down to the GT badge on its rear valance. There’s little doubt the Chevy lovers out there will tell everyone they know that the athletic 2016 Camaro earned its SS (Super Sport) suffix.
What’s unknown at this point is how the Shelby Mustang with GT350R badging will fare against a next-generation Camaro Z28.
