Autonomous Driving Technology Could Help ISIS

We previously reported a story about a Texas Plumber who sold his Ford F-250 Super Duty to Autonation, and somehow the truck popped up in Syria at the hands of Isis terrorists some time after, but to the plumbers misfortune, it still had the name of his plumbing business on the side of it.

Well, there’s a new concern amongst the intelligence and military community, and it’s self-driving cars, or autonomous technology, whichever you prefer to call it. As we’ve seen on Hollywood movies and hit-tv shows, terrorists love blowing stuff up via remote controlled vehicles, and governments are afraid that’ll soon be our reality.

ISIS

Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer of F-Secure, recently commented at a conference, that they have concrete proof that ISIS is building self-driving cars themselves, which means they have a few bright minds on their side, which given the size and complexity of their operation, is no surprise at all.

He also added that ISIS is the only terrorist group advanced enough to actually mount a fully autonomous attack, as if somehow that should make us feel better.

As with every kind of technology, we can use it to better our lives, or perform evil. Hopefully it’s not the latter.
