Amp Up Your Expedition with the Ford Base Camp Ranger
Collaboration between Ford Accessories, Ford Performance, and a slew of aftermarket suppliers sets up camp at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show.
The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show has all of the newest rides set to hit the showroom in the coming year, including a few relevant to you, our Ford Truck Enthusiasts readers.
While hanging out among the many 2019 Ford Rangers at the Blue Oval’s booth, we happened upon one take of the newly returned mid-size pickup that was just too cool not to give its own spotlight on our pages.
This is the Base Camp Ranger, a project put together between Ford Performance, Ford Accessories, and a handful of aftermarket suppliers, including Yakima, Warn Industries, and Borla. The base of the Base Camp Ranger is an amped-up Ranger XLT SuperCrew 4×4 with the FX4 Off-Road package. Ford Performance added important off-road accessories like the snorkel, skid plates, and performance exhaust.
Of course, it’s not a Base Camp Ranger without a tent placed above the bed, out of reach of bears, coyotes, and scorpions. The tent is Yakima’s main contribution, which was helped by the SEMA Tech Transfer program, where Ford provided “production-level CAD data to the SEMA members so the aftermarket parts can be available at launch and can be executed to perfection.” We think they nailed it with this Ranger.
