From two fifth-wheel campers fit for a NASCAR superstar to an old BMW i3, the F-150 PowerBoost’s Pro Power generator hits it out of the park!

The F-150’s been the face of the F-Series since its arrival in the late Seventies. By the early Eighties, it took the place of the old F-100. In the late Nineties, it deviated from the rest of the family with a more car-like flair. And today in the New ’20s, the ninth-generation F-150 includes both hybrid and electric models along with the diesel and gas units.

It also includes the amazing Pro Power Onboard generator. With it, any 2021 F-150 can power all of your tools or charge up their batteries without the need to call in more dedicated units. However, The Fast Lane Now discovered just how powerful this wonder generator truly is.

“Here’s a question,” asks Andre Smirnov. “What can the new F-150 hybrid power? Well, how ’bout two giant Cimarron gooseneck trailers with giant living quarters!”

That’s right! the F-150 PowerBoost’s Pro Power Onboard is linked to not one, but two fifth-wheel horse trailer-campers fit for a NASCAR superstar. The hybrid’s 1.5 kWh battery pack serves as the source of the generator’s power, fed by the twin-turbo V6 under the hood at 1,500 rpm. With all that power, Smirnov can run the heaters, lights and microwaves in each camper with little trouble. But can it do more?

“In order to push the limits of the F-150 and see how fast it’ll charge our dead BMW i3, I’m not going to use the standard three-prong, 120-volts plug,” said Tommy Mica. “I’m going to use this beefy thing, 240 volts of fun.”

Of course, to do so, he needs an adapter to connect the box to the Pro Power. After that, though, it’s smooth sailing while charging up the i3. That said, charging the old EV at max speed does push the entire F-150 to the 7.2-kWh redline. It remains this way for the first couple of hours, dropping back down to the greenline in the final hour.

“Please don’t charge your electric car with your F-150 regularly,” Mica said. “It’s a silly thing to do. Just plug it into the wall. It’ll be much, much cheaper and much much more efficient.”

Though it is silly, it’s awesome the F-150 PowerBoost can do so much on its own.
