2020 Ford Bronco: What Gives with Lack of Leaks?
It’s been three years since Ford announced the return of the Bronco. So, how do we still not know much about it?
There’s no denying the fact that the forthcoming 2020 Ford Bronco reboot is one of the most anticipated vehicles ever. We’ve been waiting over 20 years for this moment, and fans remain on edge. Heck, we’re betting that at least a few of you have said a little bedtime prayer with the hopes that Ford doesn’t screw this up. But we’ve noticed something even stranger about the new Bronco – the fact that there have been a total of zero major leaks about it. Nothing. Nada.
This is in stark contrast to other hotly anticipated future vehicles. Like, say, the C8 mid-engine Corvette, which seemingly has a new leak every week. So how in the heck does Ford manage to keep all Bronco info on the down low? Well, judging by this recent thread, it looks like Ford Truck Enthusiasts members have their theories.
“With all the excitement surrounding the Bronco, you would think we would have seen more than just an Everest driving around a couple times and that sheet under a sheet thing Ford did,” said a frustrated rollerstud98. Other than the 2.7 and 7-speed manual rumors, has anything else even remotely leaked? Driving me crazy!”
We feel your pain, OP. There’s nothing more annoying than the unknown, especially when it involves a vehicle we love so much. But as tseekins points out, Ford has always been pretty tight-lipped.
“Of all automakers, Ford seems to have the best luck keeping a secret. And when they say a 2020 model, they mean January of 2020, not the fall of 2019. This has proven itself true over the last 10 years of new model releases.”
The appropriately-named someday also points out that we’re probably still a little ways out from the reveal, too.
“Don’t hold your breath. It looks like there’s a line of models ahead of the Bronco: GT 500, Explorer, F-150, Super Duty. Doesn’t look like it’ll be at the Detroit Auto Show, though I think it would be a good way to take sales away from the Wrangler. Unless it’s a total dud and doesn’t compete with the Wrangler, then wait as long as possible.”
And onug thinks that when Ford is ready to leak some info, they’ll do it themselves.
“I honestly think most OEMs, especially Ford, only run mules outside their private proving grounds when they want secret spy photos to be taken. It’s not a surprise, it’s a photo op. Free marketing. And more than once I’ve gotten the sense that surprise photo op is actually prearranged.
If Tseekins is right and the Bronco won’t hit dealerships until early 2020, then it’s still early for mules on the roads. If Ford holds to its normal formula, they’ll slowly trickle information out in 2019. First the design, then the powerplant(s), then the trim levels, then the efficiency ratings.”
So at this point, it looks like we’ve still got at least a few months to wait before we learn (or see) anything about the new Bronco. Still, we want to know what you think. Head over here and tell us why you think there haven’t been any big leaks yet, and when you think it’ll finally happen!
