2019 Ford Ranger Limited Front

This 2019 Ford Ranger could be our first look at the mid-sized pickup set to debut later this month in Detroit.

The 2019 Ford Ranger is expected to debut in a few weeks at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s Cobo Hall. The company has been oddly quiet with early details, but pictures of a refreshed Ranger in Thailand without any sort of disguise could be our first look at the midsized truck coming to the US market later this year.

A New Ranger in Thailand

These pictures were first posted online by the Thai website Headlightmag.com and they show us what is believed to be the next Ford Ranger. This is a right-hand-drive pickup, so this is a version that will be sold in many foreign markets where the Ranger is currently on sale. In Thailand, this is likely the next generation of the popular Ford pickup, but for Americans, this could be the first new Ranger since the 2012 model year.

Of course, the version sold in the United States will have the steering wheel on the other side of the cabin, but the exterior design aspects appear to fit with the camouflaged test trucks we have seen here in the US. Also, with the familiar “Limited” badging and the model name sprawled across the tailgate, this midsized truck would line up nicely with the newest F-150.

Differences from the Current Truck

For the most part, this metallic blue 2019 Ford Ranger Limited looks a great deal like the midsized pickup currently on sale in many non-US markets, but there are some key changes. Up front, this pickup has a narrower grille opening with a new inner-grille design, sporting two thin horizontal bars running through the Ford blue oval badge rather than the thicker bars on the current models.

The front bumper area of this Ford pickup is also unique, with a more fluid side-to-side design than the current models and the headlights are the same basic shape, but the trim lighting along the bottom of each lens has changed from a solid bar to a segmented design.

Oddly, while this is clearly a premium Limited luxury model, this Ranger appears to have a wheel design similar to that of the current Ranger Wildtrak, but with uniquely colored inset areas.

Similarities of a Sharp-Looking Truck

While there are some changes across the front end of this Ranger, it looks a great deal like the midsized Ford on sale in many foreign markets right now. The side view is the same, with the curved approach to the C-pillar, the Raptor-like vents on the front fenders and the molded running boards.

If this is the 2019 Ford Ranger that will be sold in the US – or if it is even relatively similar to what we get here – it has the making of a truck that should sell well in the current market. Midsized trucks are hot right now and this Ranger looks like it will fit right in with the likes of the Chevy Colorado and the Toyota Tacoma.
